First things first:
I’m not an analyst: Although I do research and write about businesses on here (sometimes in really long form), I don’t think you should expect to see deep analytical insights.
I’m not even in the finance field: Investing in stocks is my passion, and it’s a hobby, but it’s not a profession. I plan on creating and sharing content about my experience as an individual investor, and I’d love to connect with other like-minded individual investors.
What you can expect: I plan on writing about businesses I love, sharing resources I’ve found helpful (books, articles, ideas, tweets), sharing my thoughts on portfolio construction, as well as doing in-depth portfolio updates from time-to-time. Hopefully, I am still learning and evolving and I can document it all here.
The businesses I love: I focus mainly on finding businesses with high returns on capital with significant opportunities to reinvest; another way of saying a “winner on an S-Curve” or a “reinvestment moat”.
“It’s obvious that if a company generates high returns on capital and reinvests at high returns, it will do well. But this wouldn’t sell books, so there’s a lot of twaddle and fuzzy concepts that have been introduced that don’t add much.” - C. MungerI think Technology, (including SaaS/Software, FinTech/Payments, and Consumer/E-commerce Platforms) is a really interesting space to search for these businesses, so that’s where I focus.
Here are some businesses I love, and if you love these businesses too, then we have a similar mindset:
Apple (AAPL)
Alphabet (GOOG)
Amazon (AMZN)
Facebook (FB)
MercadoLibre (MELI)
Adyen (ADYEN)
Sea Limited (SE)
Evolution (EVO)
Atlassian (TEAM)
Twilio (TWLO)
Shopify (SHOP)
What I love most about investing: The most rewarding part of investing for me is meeting people who love investing as much as I do. It’s all about the journey and the insights shared along the way. Please feel free to connect with me on Twitter (@LiviamCapital) or through email ([email protected]).
